The United States Snowshoe Association announced Bennington Vermont’s Dion Snowshoes added a fifth year to their title sponsorship reign, now extending through 2015.
USSSA Sports Director Mark Elmore said, “Dion Snowshoes has served as the USSSA’s National Snowshoe Championship title sponsor since 2011, a period of important growth in the sport. National titles in this time have been contested throughout the country in Cable,
Wisconsin, Frisco, Colorado, Bend, Oregon and this year Woodford, Vermont. 2015’s season of national snowshoe championship qualifiers and state championships will culminate in Eau Claire, Wis., from February 27, 2015 through March 1, 2015. We are excited to welcome Bob and Denise Dion of Dion Snowshoes back for another season.”
The Dions, popular in the sport of snowshoe racing, said, “We are pleased to have partnered with the USSSA in supporting the sport these past few years and seeing the growth and excitement increase each year. We are looking forward to another exciting season in 2015.”
2015 is developing into a special snowshoe racing year with the earlier announcement that the International Winter World Masters Games will contest their competition in Québec City, Canada from January 31, 2015 through February 9, 2015. The International Snowshoeing Federation (ISSF) will conduct their World Snowshoe Championship event in conjunction with the Winter World Masters Games. Exact dates for the ISSF race are expected soon.
Adding a heightened sense of attention to snowshoeing is the fact Québec City’s festive Winter Carnival, the largest such event in the world, overlaps these championships races.
This Winter Carnival now 60 years and growing is impressive indeed, ranking third on the List of Top Carnivals only after those in Rio and New Orleans. Vive la Québec City!
