Isolated Detriments

Nobody requires perfect nutrition like endurance athletes. supplements - veggies

The arduous nature of our sport requires full-time awareness that redefines nutritional precision.

Whole, plant-based foods provide the optimal and varied nutrient-dense vitamins and minerals to help your body thrive.

Snowshoeing increases the presence of free radicals in your body. This requires higher levels of antioxidants to alleviate the stress placed on your body.

Phytochemicals in whole fruits and vegetables provide ample levels of antioxidants to thwart any surge by free radicals.

Processed foods and animal products provide empty calories and seize the spaces in your digestive tract and bloodstream reserved for nutrients you need to have the energy to enjoy snowshoeing. Providing your body with the nutrient-dense foods it needs is a significant part of the awareness process.

Your body represents the most remarkable example of synergy. Trillions of cells ceaselessly interact to manifest unmistakable fluidity in everything you endeavor in life – this magnificence is the hallmark of our sport.

Supplement manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, the media, health care professionals, fitness and health publications and the like have done a masterful job to disrupt your body’s harmony by confusing the public beyond definition – while earning billions of dollars in annual profits.

We are bombarded with pitches founded on the premise that our health and fitness goals cannot be attained without the latest concentrated extract, vitamin, amino acid or some other isolated nutrient.

The impetus allowing the supplement industry and others to haunt your nutrient fears, take your money and imply health miracles without side effects is the 1994 Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act [DSHEA].

The irony of this legislation is that drug companies – not the Food and Drug Administration [FDA] – now have the power to determine the safety and effectiveness of their own products.

The broad implications of this arrangement are pending. The FDA only becomes involved if there is a problem with a supplement years after you have spent your money. Buyer beware.

Vitamin PillsA nutrient deficiency will most often signify a health issue linked to a poor diet.

The origin of a nutrient deficiency needs to be determined because popping supplements will not address the causation in either scenario.

Risk is inherent to supplementation. Supplements need to be treated as medications.

Medications have side effects and reams of scientific data indicate that ingesting isolated nutrients do not make you healthier.

Isolated nutrients may be used to reduce the duration of a cold with vitamin C, or rectify a known deficiency, for example.

Isolated nutrient capsules such as fish oil, omega-3, multivitamins, high doses of antioxidants like beta-carotene, vitamin E, amino acids, folic acid, selenium and so forth may have viability in the short-term to treat a specific deficiency but fail miserably in the long-term.

The scientific evidence is clear that these isolated supplements are not preventing, reversing or mitigating the progression of disease.

Studies published the past two decades suggest that isolated supplements are dangerous. These studies were sponsored by drug manufacturers to highlight the benefits of their respective supplements. The results showed that consumption of isolated supplements increased your risk of heart disease, cancer and death. Find just a few glaring examples below.

Large doses of vitamin E was once advocated to ward off Alzheimer’s disease and preclude oxidation. Vitamin E was later found to “increase all-cause mortality at high doses” after meta-analysis of 19 studies exposed the truth.

Vitamin E is necessary antioxidant to primarily halt oxidation and improve immune function. Consume apples, pears, avocados, mangos, spinach, kelp, almonds, wheat germ and a host of other foods.

Obstetricians have routinely advised pregnant women to ingest daily 400 micrograms of folic acid to prevent neural-tube defects in their babies. Research now shows that folic acid supplementation increases the risk of breast cancer, colorectal and increases the risk for childhood asthma and respiratory infections.

Folic acid is the synthetic version of folate which is abundant in strawberries, bananas, cauliflower, orange juice, tempeh, tomatoes and other healthful foods.supplements - D -snowshoeing in sunlight

Fish oil is the latest isolated supplement rage all in the name of getting the essential fatty acid DHA. Fish are among the most polluted organisms.

Consuming fish oil in a capsule has simply concentrated exponentially your exposure to PCBs, dioxin, mercury, organochlorines, pesticides and DDT.

Each of these compounds presents serious health risks to humans – with concentrated levels in one convenient capsule.

Despite the molecular distillation process, fish oil and other isolated supplement products have been found to contain high levels of these compounds, heavy metals [lead, arsenic and mercury] and similar toxins – lawsuits are pending.

Obtain your DHA by consuming plant sources of ALA [alpha-linolenic acid] like flaxseeds, hemp seeds, chia seeds, walnuts and soybeans. Take microalgae formulas – a safer option than fish oil – if your blood test remains conclusive of a deficiency.

The nutrient is not causing these issues. The reason is because isolated, concentrated nutrients have been consumed and imbalances are created within your cells. Inside each cell are receptors where carotenoids [antioxidants] must attach to perform its functions.

These imbalances cause your body to become weaker, less effective and diseased – until death.

When you flood your system with isolated nutrients the receptors no longer have room for the carotenoids and reactive compounds [free radicals] now flourish. Oxidation will accelerate disease and the aging processes – none of which is good for the snowshoer – when free radicals outnumber antioxidants.

A diet based on less than whole foods will disrupt the nutritional balance of your body, hamper your snowshoeing and likely spawn detrimental long-term effects.

We have manufactured innumerable excuses to deviate from nature’s simple formula to achieve optimal sports performance and wellness. Scientific evidence overwhelmingly suggests that organic, plant-based, whole foods most closely mirror the nutrient ratios upon which our bodies thrive.

Except for vitamins B12 and D you can get all the nutrients you need from the food nature grows in front of you.

Experience the health-promoting beauty of these foods on your plate and your palate.
