Snowshoe season is nearing an end. We’ve wrapped up our racing, except for the U.S. Snowshoe Championships, which are next weekend in Vermont. The latter half of 2005 was injury-plagued for Derrick and me, but we are progressing back to racing shape – good timing to enjoy this last big race of the season.
Except for two snowstorms – one in December, and one in February, we had very little significant snowfall this winter where we live, and what we did get melted quickly in the warm temps. It is fortunate that we were able to drive a few hours north, to the Mad Trapper races in Quebec, or south to New York State, to enjoy the much better conditions there.
Our dogs have also lamented the lack of snow. We were only able to take them out dogsledding three times all winter! On an optimistic note for next year though…we recently added a two year old female Alaskan Husky named Jesse to the “team”.
So, here’s hoping for more snow and better health next winter! In the meantime, we plan to have a fun time in Vermont, then look forward to some good muddy spring trail running!
