Way cool dude…I would like to add two more Alistair MacLean books/movies, “Ice Station Zebra and Where Eagles Dare, my personal favorite, along with Guns of Navarone”…Then there’s “Battleground, Battle of the Bulge, The Victors, (not to be confused with Martin, Clift, Brando and Barbara Rush skiing the Alps in Young Lions, the irony comes later in the heat of No Africa or Mai Brit’s burned out Berlin apt, spoils of war, Peck’s Cross of Iron), especially when they execute Pvt Slovik on Xmas day in front a division while Frank sings the ubiquitous, Have Yourself a Merry Little Xmas in the background… By the by Carl Foreman directed both Navarone and The Victors…How can you omit Jeremiah Johnson, perhaps one of Redford’s best(arguablyThe Chase, This Property is Condemned)?or Downhill Racer, Hot Dog, the Movie, or Markles’ Youngblood, both edited by my old roomy’s bro, Steven Z, less is less, Snow Job, Copper Mountain...However, my favorite Fuhrer, goes to Downfall, w/Bruno Ganz, Enemy at the Gates, also pretty good…Where are the obvious Nat’l Lampoon’s Xmas Vacation and Fargo?...The list is endless, but I agree it has to be pared down, like the opening scene from Return of the Jedi. There’s Pale Rider, the Eiger Sanction, When Trumpets Fade, Mystery Alaska, Mighty Ducks, Slapshot, Quintet, Runaway Train, Bergman’s The Touch, w/Elliot Gould, also the unique decapitation in Silent Partners, Cusick’s Better Off Dead and The Sure Thing, equal to Ice Harvest…HBO’s Gulag, Starting Over, Julia, Bad Santa, The Mountain w/ Spencer T and RJ, Bond used the winter scenes frequently, the least notable Roger Moore and Lynn-Holly Johnson in For Your Eyes Only…If I gave it more than forty-nine seconds, I’m sure I could come up with forty-nine more reasons…
