Hi Alex. No we did not wear skins. The trail is usually packed by a snowmobile and often even trackset as far as the junction with the lodge. You should not need skins. There is one steep hill past the junction that most people just walk. It's really too steep to ski up or down and it's too short to bother with putting skins on. Once you get to the top of the hill it's flat skiing to the lodge. Have fun and make sure you go explore around the lake. It's so pretty.

Hi Tanya - Thank you for the post. I enjoyed reading about your experience. I'm staying at Shadow Lake Lodge next month. I was wondering if you wore skins on your XC skis going up to the Lodge?
