Review: Stio Women’s Hometown Down Hooded Jacket

McPhee_Jan 2016-94It’s hard to find a jacket more versatile than the Stio Women’s Hometown Down Hooded Jacket. I was in search of a jacket that could double as the perfect jacket for snowshoeing and for one I could wear out and about the town. The first thing I noticed was how light the jacket was, especially compared to some of the other winter jackets in my closet.

Weighing only 13oz, it literally feels like wearing nothing. I wasn’t sure how well it was going to fare in the cold weather though. Luckily, I was surprised how ultra warm this jacket truly was. Featuring 800-fill goose down, I took this jacket out in -30 degrees Celsius (-22° F) with just a thin base layer underneath. After snowshoeing for about an hour, I wasn’t hot nor cold, but perfectly content. The fully IMG_8708adjustable hood came in super handy when it was windy as did the comfortable hand warming pockets. Inside the jacket, there is a pocket that was perfect for my cell phone, which keeps it safe, secure and warm. What I love most about this jacket is the way it fits, true to its size it offers enough room for a couple layers underneath but not overly bulky. The elastic around the wrist is not too tight, nor too loose, fitting nicely over my mitts and the zipper zips all the way up to protect my face from the wind.

Having never been a fan of “puffy” jackets, I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy this one as much as I have. Stio has absolutely knocked it out of the park with this jacket and I will continue to wear it well into the spring months. Heck, you can even do a handstand in it!
