Yukon Charlie’s Racing Snowshoes Debut at 2016 USSSA National Snowshoe Championships

What better way to introduce snowshoe racing models than elevating them to center stage. Yukon Charlie’s Snowshoes enters the 2016 United States Snowshoe National Championships as a contributing sponsor for their first foray into the country’s signature snowshoe event. This year’s races promise to be so big! Not only do the athletes compete in their chosen schedule over the February 26-28 weekend and visit two major Ogden, Utah resorts, they kick off a major new distance into snowshoeing racing history:

Just introduced, the new Yukon Charlie's® Race Ultra-Lite™ "engineered from the ground up" for a high performance super-light racer . . . and decked out in Lime signifying lower course times.

Powder Mountain Resort Saturday, February 27, for the men’s and women’s 10 km national championships, citizen’s races and kid’s kilo race.

Snowbasin Resort Sunday, February 28th, for the inaugural marathon national championship to couple with the second annual half-marathon championship.

United States Snowshoe Association Sports Director, legendary Mark Elmore said, “The USSSA is happy to see Yukon Charlie’s Snowshoes unveiling new racing models this season, and we are pleased to partner with them in promoting this début effort.”

Yukon Charlie’s said, “We are excited to be partnering with the USSSA team to strengthen our vision of filling the need for high quality snow-shoes at a reasonable cost. We truly believe this partnership will strengthen our presence in the Outdoor Industry by offering consumers high quality affordable racing snowshoes.”

Yukon Charlie’s presents some of the most innovative products for snow fun: just announced, the new Yukon Charlie’s® Race Ultra-Lite™. New engineering produced the company’s lightest weight snowshoe built on a frame [see inflatable snowshoe below]. Utilizing Rapid-Lite Flexbindings paired with Sprintcrampons offer athletes a snowshoe meant to go fast on groomed and technical championship courses.

The Yukon Charlies Women Elite Model

For racing, check the Elite Series. Women’s Elite models use a design “to be more refined in size for a more natural stride.” Yukon Charlie’s says the Elite Series display “simply the best snowshoe we have ever made. Light, strong, efficient.” Men’s models click here. Also racers use the Pro model shown in the above photo that features Yukon Charlie’s lightest–and strongest–frame for a “premier performer.”

For all terrains, the Advanced Series race in the harshest of conditions by the most demanding athletes.

Then the industry shocker, Airlift Emergency Inflatable Snowshoes; light [well, how much does air really weigh?] and durable, use these red rock-and-rollers when the snow gets way deep or something goes wrong otherwise. Cool as anything on the trail, they’re tough with an inner bladder for the air along with a strong outer to handle the vicissitudes of snowshoe trails. The package includes both a hand pump and storage bag for easy transport.

Who's the first to line up at a snowshoe race wearing these bad boys? Yukon Charlie doesn't recommend that, so racer beware but the excitement just might be worth it.

Flipoff problems of storing and travelling with long poles with these Yukon Flipout Trekking Poles. These collapsible trekkers deploy quickly, include a Fast Lock, and promise extreme stability. Chose aluminum with the red/silver colors or upgrade with the lighter blue/gray carbon.

An add to the long snowshoe pack, Yukon Charlie’s emergency shovels with the ability to store them handily. Then there is the sensational Hammerhead Sled, looking every bit like a hot rod Porsche for the snow. With its unique steering system, High Density Poly Ethylene rear skis, and futuristic design, one can prove YC’s claim: “When it’s this fast, it’s not just sledding.”

For the first time in its national’s history, competitors only need join the association [here] to compete at these races. Online or at the USSSA center at the championships will be easiest. The previous year’s qualifying races are not a need this year; call it a gift to racers celebrating this, the sweet sixteenth year of national snowshoe championships.

Expect top North America snowshoers to toe the starts along with enthusiasts from around the globe. The opportunity awaits for all to compete in multiple events on the schedule. Work the timetables to your favor. Don’t pass up a chance to enter an event on this historic weekend.

Every participant finds the experience of racing national championships a trophy of life; the ability and health to race these events no matter if one medals or not. Call it lessons learned from famed snowshoer Cindy Brochman whose memory lives every year with the award of the Snowshoe Person of the Year presentation. Recognizing top leaders in the sport, this year’s award promises a special feature to commemorate the history of national snowshoe racing.
