112 years of American-made workmanship

East Tennessee-based Crescent Sock Co., now FITS, has been in the business of keeping feet dry and comfortable since 1902. They offer products in a variety of cold weather-appropriate categories, including Ski/Nordic, Hunting/Sporting, Trail/Hiker/National Parks, and Tactical. When I had the opportunity to evaluate a pair over the course of winter 2014/15, I chose their Ultra Heavy Expedition Rugged Boot model for the simple reason that as a sufferer of Raynaud’s syndrome my feet need all the help they can get out in the snow and cold.

Merino is the go-to sock material for a reason. It 1) isn’t itchy like coarse “blanket wool,” 2) insulates when wet, 3) breathes well to help avoid becoming wet in the first place, and 4) is naturally anti-bacterial to help ward off stink and fungal infection.
