Lake Tahoe Resorts Leading the Country in Snowfall, Twenty Feet and Counting

Thanks to another massive Pacific storm system that enshrouded the slopes with over five feet of fresh snow, Lake Tahoe is currently reporting the highest snowfall totals of all major ski destinations in the lower 48 states with summit elevations at the resorts recently surpassing the 240-inch mark. With less than a week of winter officially in the books, Lake Tahoe ski resorts have already recorded more than 50 percent of their average annual snowfall totals making tomorrow’s Christmas holiday the second snowiest on record. With forecasters now calling for a perfect blend of additional snow and blue skies over the holidays, skiers and snowboarders can expect a climactic week of bottomless powder turns to cap off a memorable December.

The latest round of storms has allowed all seven Ski Lake Tahoe resorts to open 100 percent of their terrain in advance of the Christmas holidays. Already boasting more resorts in close proximity than any other winter destination in North America, the phenomenal mid-winter conditions currently being touted by the Lake Tahoe ski resorts include plentiful options for every ability level with more than 125 chairlifts, 500 runs and 17,500 acres of legendary terrain.

The holiday week will be filled with an impressive array of family-friendly festivals and performances including plenty of Santa sightings on the slopes. Expect the festive atmosphere to slowly ramp up throughout the week before reaching a fever pitch during the action-packed New Year’s Eve celebrations taking place around the Lake Tahoe region. The second annual SnowGlobe Festival is expected to draw upwards of 10,000 party-goers to supplement the massive crowds that traditionally spill out into the Stateline casino corridor to celebrate the stroke of midnight resulting in the biggest slope-side New Year’s Eve block party on the planet.
