Mountain Masochist Trail Run Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the popular Mountain Masochist 50-mile trail run is preparing for its largest race to date with over double the amount of racers from previous years. The race will take place on Saturday, November 3rd and include a new starting area and trails to mix it up and make it more interesting for runners. As the title sponsor, Patagonia – with representatives from both apparel and footwear present – will aid runners with an athlete lounge that includes food, couches and a comfortable place to recover and share stories about the run. Head-to-toe clothing and shoe demos will be available featuring Patagonia’s newest gear such as the EVERmore minimal trail running shoe.

“Started in 1983, the Mountain Masochist Trail Run has earned its reputation for being one of the ‘best trail races in the east,” said Clark Zealand, race director. “The course has been tweaked a bit in celebration of our 30th birthday but remains a challenging combination of roads, jeep trails, and single track that can cause even the most experienced runner to breathe a sigh of relief at the finish line. Patagonia and Patagonia Footwear are huge supporters of the race and we are thrilled to have them as title sponsor again this year supporting our athletes.”

“This is a challenging race, but also a great one for first timers to the ultra running scene,” said Mark Hoffman, key account manager at Patagonia Footwear. “We want to continue to be a part of this growing sport with an incredible field of athletes. Additionally, the Mountain Masochist race provides runners with an opportunity to test our trail-focused products. Our Patagonia trail running athletes will be right there beside other runners competing and lending support and also taking notes so that we can continue to provide the best trail running shoes for the future.”

Patagonia trail running ambassadors and ultra running team members will be present both racing and working the event. Race Director and Patagonia Ultra Running Team Athlete Clark Zealand will be working the event and crewing athletes in the new Spring 2013 EVERmore minimal (4 mm drop) trail running shoe. Patagonia Ambassador and teammate Krissy Moehl will be racing in Gamut, also new for Spring 2013. All Patagonia athletes are available for interview before and at the race.

Live Webcasts will be hosted on a page dedicated to the race, and photos and updates will be shared socially.
