SNOWSHOE MAGAZINE GEAR REVIEW:

GORE-TEX Footwear Provides Comfort and Protection from the Elements

When it’s crummy weather outside, the last think you want to deal with are wet boots or shoes. Snowshoers appreciate the little things they don’t have to worry about. The focus should be on the snow, the trail, and the good memory that’ll result from the outing. GORE-TEX footwear helps provide those good memories by providing the comfort needed while snowshoeing.

According to GORE-TEX footwear marketing representative Sally Choi, footwear with the waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX product technology provides comfort and protection for your feet, regardless of weather conditions. “The company works with some of the world’s leading fashion footwear brands, so there’s no need to sacrifice style for performance,” she said.

On a recent snowshoe excursion, I donned a pair of Clarks Street Hi GTX brown leather boots; they looked great as I slid them into my snowshoes, and felt comfortable during the two hours I plodded through the snow. What’s nice about the Clarks are their dual purpose; they look ruggedly fashionable, yet comfortable for hours on end. The seam-sealed construction with breathable GORE-TEX lining creates a warm and comfortable dry haven for feet. Also, the padded top lining and removable OrthoLite foot bed with Active Air help cushion the bottoms of the shoe.

Choi explained the inner workings of the design: “Perfect for winter days, GORE-TEX materials keep water out while simultaneously allowing the foot to breathe. Clarks men’s shoes with GORE-TEX linings ensure your feet will be dry and comfortable, regardless of the weather.”

Given the variety of styles and options, many of the Clarks footwear come with the patented GORE-TEX membrane which keeps water out while allowing the foot to breath, offering a more comfortable interior environment. GORE-TEX shoes are put together with specialized materials that are specially constructed to work with the GORE-TEX laminated lining. The ideal solution for anyone working indoors or playing outdoors, footwear engineered with GORE-TEX linings are:

Breathable

  • Provide a comfortable climate inside the shoe during all kinds of activities
  • The membrane has microscopic pores that are 700 times bigger than a molecule of water vapor, so perspiration can easily escape
  • Long-lasting comfort comes from a double layer that won’t flatten out over time through wear

Waterproof

  • Durable waterproof protection – that is guaranteed
  • Water cannot enter thanks to the microscopic pores that are 20,000 times smaller than a droplet of water
  • Feet remain dry, healthy, and comfortable

Over the last six decades since Nathan Clark first developed the desert boot that stood out from the crowd, Clarks have been blazing footwear trails, whether in the desert or on a snowshoe trail. Coupling their efforts with GORE-TEX has made their footwear more appealing as well.

Waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX product technology provides comfort and protection for your feet. “The GORE-TEX product technology is also used by some of the world’s leading fashion footwear brands,” shared Choi. “We strongly feel that you don’t have to sacrifice style for performance.”

In addition to Clarks, other GORE-TEX footwear partners include Ara, Dunham, Ecco, El Naturalista, La Chameau, Lloyd, BT, Mephisto,  Rockport, Steward Weitzman, Timberland, and Tretorn.
