Wild Earth Llama Adventures Raffling Off 5-Day Taos Adventure to Save Abandoned, Unwanted Llamas

Wild Earth Llama Adventures in Taos, New Mexico – voted as one of the “Top 10 Best Tours in the United States” by Trip Advisor – is hosting a raffle to help with their llama rescue efforts, with a great chance of winning a 5-day, 4-night Taos Adventure Vacation for two.

With only 100 raffle tickets available, the odds of winning the Taos Adventure Vacation Package are high. The package includes a 3-day Llama Trekking Wilderness Adventure; a 1-night stay at the Historic Taos Inn (including dinner at Doc Martin’s Restaurant); and a 1-night stay at Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort and Spa, which includes a private hot springs pool. The value of the Taos Adventure Vacation Package is approximately $2,000.

Wilderness guide and Wild Earth Llama Adventures owner, Stuart Wilde, has not only educated his llama trekking clients about ecological preservation, but has taken in and housed dozens of unwanted, neglected or abused llamas from throughout the Western region of the U.S. Some of those llamas have been rehabilitated and utilized for wilderness trips. With 32 orphaned llamas currently living at the Wild Earth refuge, however; it is becoming a bigger challenge trying to meet the llama’s needs.

“Over the past 20 years, we have encountered thousands of adventure seekers who came for an outdoor wilderness experience and left with so much more – especially since many of them bonded with the llamas who were with them during their journey,” said Wilde. “We hope that those same people, and others who are concerned about the well being of these gentle creatures, will find it in their hearts to help the llamas and make it possible for us to rescue others.”

Wilde said that he recently rescued six male llamas and found homes for several females in Durango, Colorado after discovering that 20 were abandoned. The llamas had no food after being let go by their owner, and several were shot at by ranchers who found the llamas eating their hay. As a result, eight llamas died, one lost a foot, and the others were rescued by Wilde. Wilde said that stories like these are typical, and he drives hundreds of miles in a specially equipped vehicle to rescue the ones he can – some have not been socialized with humans, and as a result, are more difficult to round up.

Proceeds from the raffle tickets and donations will be directly used for llama hay and feed, fencing materials, water lines, outbuildings, and the expansion of pastures and facilities to accommodate more homeless llamas in need.

Though there are are only a limited number of raffle tickets available now, Wild Earth Llama Rescue is always accepting donations which can be made online at www.LlamaAdventures.com/llama-rescue.html.

The raffle drawing will be held on January 15, 2012. The winner will be notified via email on January 16, 2012. With the purchase of a raffle ticket, a hi-resolution copy will be sent as a record or to be printed out as a gift for friends and family.
