New Equipment to Extend Winter Season at Waterville Valley Resort

This season Waterville Valley Resort is making strides to improve snow conditions on the resort’s 52 downhill trails, all terrain parks and their 70 km of cross country tracks. Skiers and riders will be able to take advantage of the upgrades when the resort opens this year on Saturday, November 19, 2011.

New snowmaking pumps will produce a third more snow near the 4,004-ft. summit to assure fresh powder is never in short supply. There also four new snow guns dedicated to Waterville Valley Resort’s terrain park that will allow the ski and snowboard rails, jibs, jumps and super pipe to open even earlier this season. A new Snowcat was also added to the fleet and has been equipped with a special winch to groom steep trails that most groomers cannot reach.

Other improvements include a new Piston Bully cross-country, snow-grooming cat that will improve surface conditions for both traditional and skating tracks on the resort’s vast network of groomed trails. The High Country chairlift to the summit has also been converted to cleaner and quieter electric power, shortening the ride time. Riders will now be able to enjoy a quicker and quieter ride while the resort implements changes to bolster their energy efficiency.

Waterville Valley has 40 miles of groomed, well-marked trails for snowshoeing. But the beauty of snowshoeing here is that there are no limits to where you can go and how far and wide you can explore.
