Easton Mountain Products Wins Top Honors at Utah Innovation Awards

Easton Mountain Products earned top honors at the 2011 Utah Innovation Awards on Tuesday.  A committee of 70 experts from Utah’s private industry, government and academic communities selected Easton Mountain Products’ new Kilo ultralight tent as the winner in the contest’s outdoor and consumer products category.

The Utah Innovation Awards recognizes significant innovations from Utah companies.  The primary goal of the program is to bring attention to the high level of innovation taking place in the state of Utah.

“Not only is it a great honor for our company to be honored alongside such great innovators in our state, but we’re pleased that the Kilo tent is getting such recognition,” says Easton Mountain Products Marketing Manager Rich Packer.  “We put a lot of work into developing a technology that greatly improves the backpacking experience, and it’s good to see it getting props from leaders in our state.”

Weighing in at 2.2 pounds, the Easton Mountain Products Kilo tent is the lightest in its class.  The Kilo utilizes Easton’s new carbon fiber pole system with patent-pending AirLock technology that connects pole sections and replaces standard shock cord.  The combination of zero shock cord and proprietary Easton carbon means the tent pole system is 56% lighter than conventional aluminum pole systems.

In addition to the Kilo tent, Easton Mountain Products has gained notoriety in the outdoor industry from the launch of its Artica snowshoe line.  Winning multiple awards including Outside Magazine’s 2009 Gear of the Year, Easton Mountain Products continues to make a name for itself as a true innovator in the outdoor industry.
