Josiah Middaugh, Anita Ortiz Dominate Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Race

The Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series continued Sunday afternoon with the second event of the series, which took place in Beaver Creek’s Creekside Park.  Josiah Middaugh claimed his second first-place finish in the series Sunday in the men’s Dogma Athletica 10K, with Anita Ortiz winning the women’s division of the Dogma Athletica 10K. Travis Macy and Lindsay Krause, who both placed first in the East West 5K Quest division at the first event of the series in January, again took first place in the men’s and women’s East West Resorts 5K Quest divisions.

Dogma Athletica/Pedal Power athlete Josiah Middaugh claimed Sunday’s Dogma Athletica 10K title coming in with a winning time of 1:11:28, closely followed by La Sportiva/Beaver Creek athlete Bernie Boettcher who took second with a time of 1:11:46. Jason Michalak crossed the finish just seconds behind Boettcher to claim third place with a time of 1:11:52.

In the women’s Dogma Athletica 10K division, Salomon athlete Anita Ortiz took home first place honors with a winning time of 1:15:44, just ahead of second place winner Brandy Erholtz from Atlas Snow-Shoe Company, Powerbar and New Balance who finished with a time of 1:16:31. Atlas Snow-Shoe Company athlete Cheryl Paulson took the third place finish with a time of 1:16:36, coming in just slightly behind Erholtz.

The men’s East West Resorts 5K Quest saw Merrell Adventure Team’s Travis Macy clock in a winning time of 29:01, his second win of the series in this division.  Macy was followed by John Klish with a second place finish at 30:54 and Street Swell’s Brad Zoller with a third place time of 33:28. Both Klish and Zoller finished second and third, respectively, at the first event of the Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series as well.

In the women’s East West Resorts 5K Quest, the top three came across the finish line in the same order as they did at the first event of the series. Lindsay Krause from Atlas Snow-Shoe Company/Solomon claimed top honors with a time of 32:29, followed by Vicky Keleske with a finishing time of 33:57. Beaver Creek’s Melinda Brant took third place with a time of 34:10.

Other races at the second event of the Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series included the 100-yard “Dash for Cash” and the Larkburger Kids’ K. Brian Welch and Vicky Keleske were “Dash for Cash” champions and received $100 checks at the post-race ceremony. Porter Middaugh, Sullivan Middaugh and Connor Larson all raced in the Larkburger Kids’ K and received gift cards from Larkburger for participating.

The Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series and the Dogma Athletic Snowshoe Series Cup wraps up Sunday, March 6 at Beaver Creek’s McCoy Park with the Jeremy Wright North American Snowshoe Championships.
