My Columbia Bugatech Lite Omni-Heat Boots Experience

The first time I ever snowshoed in my Atlas snowshoes on 12/2/2010 I used these Columbia boots graciously provided by Columbia and Snowshoe Magazine. Most women’s boots aren’t wide enough so I asked to try a men’s pair and it worked out perfectly. The boots didn’t pinch the sides of my feet.

I couldn’t wait to get out and try snowshoeing! I was somewhat skeptical at how warm they could be but was excited to give them a try. To truly test the boots I deliberately didn’t wear thick socks but made sure to wear comfortable ones.

When I first tried on the boots they seemed stiff which I hoped would change after some use. The stiff parts of the boot appeared to be the area with the orange color/stripes. During snow shoeing, I found the boots to be extremely comfortable as they moved gracefully in step with me. I even forgot that I had them on! And, they kept my feet toasty warm. Since using them for snow shoeing I’ve also hiked in them and worn them around town.

A few improvements I would suggest would be to extend the length of the laces and make the boots less stiff/more flexible, like my Merrell Thermo 6 Waterproof boots. In walking around town in them, I also noticed that they didn’t ‘grab’ the sidewalk or street as strongly as other boots I’ve used in winter weather so I may just use these for snowshoeing.

Overall, the boots were incredibly warm, solid and I appreciated the opportunity to wear less thick and bulky socks while enjoying the winter outdoors.
