Columbia Bugatech Lite Omni-Heat Boot Review

When I first received my Columbia Bugatech Lite Omni-Heat boots, I thought to myself “wow, these are stiff.”  However, in this case stiff equals comfort. I was still going to break them in before going snowshoeing for the first time.

I started wearing them to shovel my driveway during the first few snowstorms in Montreal. The boots were immediately comfortable, very warm and snug. The soles were as good as any other brand by providing optimal traction on snow (Columbia uses their own soles, which do not squeak when wet and walking on ceramic floors).

I have used these boots mainly in three locations with varied terrain. The first being Maisonneuve Park which is adjacent to the 1976 Olympic Stadium. The park is pretty flat, but allows for a quick escape when pressed for time or in town on business. I then decided to take my boots uphill, to Mount St-Hillaire. Located 25 minutes from downtown. This little mountain offers steep terrain and a stunning view.

Again, these boots were snug and did a wonderful job in holding my foot in place going up as well as coming down. Lastly, I used my Columbia boots for a little jogging through OKA national park. Using a pair of “run” snowshoes from Atlas, I was pleasantly surprised at the cushioning and stability of my Bugatech boots. Towards the end of my day my hands were getting cold, but my feet remained warm.

The foil technology used by Columbia has been proven in other garments as well and works wonders in cold climates such as in Quebec. Having owned much more expensive boots, these are definitely contenders that will not break the bank and definitely worth checking out.
