New Winter Activities at Virginia’s Mountain Resorts

Virginia is giving families even more to love about winter getaways with new offerings at the state’s four mountain resorts.  Bryce Resort, the Homestead Resort, Massanutten Resort and Wintergreen Resort are tucked away in beautiful mountaintop landscapes of Virginia.

Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice skating and even snowmobiling abound in Virginia’s winter playgrounds.  This year each of Virginia’s mountain resorts has new programs, activities and packages to help families connect on a great winter getaway.

Bryce Resort

Located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, Bryce Resort is a 400-acre resort that is consistently voted the most family-friendly resort in the Mid-Atlantic by OnTheSnow.com.

Skiers can hone their skills at the nationally-known Horst Locher Ski School or enroll their children in the SKIwee or Mini Rider programs. These programs cater to children ages four to eight years of age.  This winter it’s getting even easier for families – especially those with young children – with Bryce’s new kids’ area.

New Kids’ Area Opening Winter 2010 – This new section at Bryce includes brightly colored animals and a new carpet lift for little ones. This means that many more children can be accommodated in the SKIwee and Mini Rider programs where they learn the basics of skiing and snowboarding.  Mini Rider is for kids age 6-8.  Both are half-day sessions taught by experienced instructors.
The Homestead Resort

Experience the magic of the winter holidays at the historic Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia. Surrounded by the beauty of the Allegheny Mountains, the historic, 3,000-acre resort is a winter wonderland for families and active travelers with ice-skating, skiing and distinctive southern holiday charm. Enjoy the excitement of the season this winter with new additions and packages at The Homestead.

New Winter Activities and Packages at The Homestead – The Homestead offers new outdoor winter pursuits including ice skating, guided snowmobile tours and a 45-acre ski area – first of its kind in the south – with a groomed downhill, nine trails and full snowmaking capabilities.

After the addition of a skating rink right behind the Homestead last year, this year the resort is offering a SKI and SKATE package from $219 for two people. Dates available are January 2 – March 17, 2011.
