Ask the Coach: Trail Running Season is Here

It’s May and time to start thinking about snowshoe season! Okay, so most of us may be lacking a little in the snow department where we live right now, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy the thoughts of the upcoming season, in addition to getting our bodies ready for next winter.

I’ve always said that I wasn’t sure whether I was a snowshoe runner who happened to enjoy running trails during the summer, or a trail runner who happened to enjoy snowshoe running in the winter. I love all seasons, but I guess this time of the year I am wearing my trail running cap.

Trail running, just like snowshoe running, is a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors, get out in nature and feel alive both physically and mentally. For those of you who already run trails during the summer, you certainly know what I mean. However, for some of you who are just looking at getting into trail running, it can be a little daunting. For the most part, it’s pretty straight forward. Find a nice trail and start running. No special equipment is required, although depending on the type of trail you run on, you might want to trade in your regular running shoes for a pair of trail running shoes for added support and traction.

There are however a number of things that can make your time on the trails that much more enjoyable though and this is where Snowshoe Magazine has you covered. During the summer months, we are opening up an interactive ‘Ask the Coach’ feature. We encourage you to send emails with the subject line of ‘Ask the Coach’ to info@healthandadventure.com . Each month, I will select a question and answer it on Snowshoe Magazine.

So, don’t be shy. This is your opportunity to find out everything that you wanted to know about the wonderful world of trail running. All questions are welcome. Just remember, if you have always wondered about a certain aspect of trail running, there are probably hundreds of others who have as well.

We look forward to answering as many of your questions as possible.

See you on the trails.
