Which food has the least amount of calories:
a) 1 medium apple
b) 1 slice bread
c) 1 oz cheddar cheese
d) 4 California ripe olives

Answers

b- in addition to salmon, flaxseeds, and canola oil, walnuts are a rich source of omega-3 fats. Omega-3 fats may prevent arteries from hardening, lower triglycerides, prevent blood platelets from clotting and sticking to artery wall, and modestly reduce blood pressure. A serving size of nuts is about 1/3 cup.

b- it is recommended that at least half of our grain consumption comes from whole grains. The 2005 Dietary Guidelines recommend 3 servings of whole grain foods per day. A serving is ½ c brown rice, barley, whole-wheat pasta, oatmeal and 1 slice of whole wheat bread. Remember to read the 1st ingredient when buying breads and look for whole-wheat flour.

c- Americans tend to underestimate their food intake by 50 percent. This can be attributed to the growing portions of many foods. Packaged foods sold as single servings typically contain at least double.

False. The Low-Carb diet craze has really made many shy away from nutrient dense foods, such as certain fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. A sedentary lifestyle along with too many calories leads to weight gain, not carbohydrates. It does not matter whether it is from carbohydrates, proteins, or fats. It is simply consuming too many calories.

d- 4 ripe olives contain 24 calories and they contain healthy monounsaturated fats. An apple is about 60 calories; 1 slice of bread contains approximately 80 calories and 1 oz cheddar cheese contains about 100 calories.
