Shuffle Like the Wind

Another year brings another shuffle. The 11th Annual Snowshoe Shuffle in Vail, Colo., – viewed as one of the most heavily attended snowshoe races in the United States – is set to take place on April 3.

The Shuffle is expected to draw a combination of more than 1,000 beginner and elite snowshoe runners and walkers for 10K, 5K and one-mile events atop Vail Mountain. Proceeds from the event go toward cancer prevention, education and early detection in the Vail Valley and surrounding regions.

“This legendary race will again feature some of the finest snowshoeing in the Rocky Mountains, with breathtaking views from atop Vail Mountain. It’s a fantastic event for families and individuals who want to spend a day in the sun and snow and help raise money for a great cause,” says Suzanne Sloan of Vail Valley Medical Center Foundation – one of the sponsors for the event.

The Snowshoe Shuffle is open to snowshoe enthusiasts of all ages and abilities, from first-timers to competitive runners. All events take place at 11 a.m. at 10,500 feet atop Vail Mountain and offer spectacular 360-degree Rocky Mountain views. Free snowshoe rentals are provided by Atlas Snow-Shoe Co. and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Women’s Cancer Coalition, an organization operating under the auspices of Vail Valley Medical Center Foundation. The Coalition focuses on cancer prevention, education and early detection in the Colorado mountain communities of Eagle, Summit and Lake Counties. Event proceeds help to provide free mammograms, free cancer screenings and health fairs for women.

“This race signifies the very essence of human strength, spirituality and the aspiration to succeed. Whether you live in Colorado or Canada, this event sets the standard when it comes to fighting for this cause,” added Andrea Glass, Snowshoe Shuffle chair.
