The weather would continue to capture headlines as we set up for the World Snowshoe Invitational. Conditions were going to be tough for all the competitors and the organizing crew as rain was falling on the already heavy wet snow. It might be best described as running on sand and the 8.2km course was going to feel like 16.4. Add in the massive climb and undulating terrain this was going to be a tough one. But everyone was excited as we realizing that we were going to produce the fastest, strongest snowshoer in the World.

On Saturday Feb. 27, 2010, a field of elite athletes from eight countries gathered on Vancouver’s Grouse Mountain for the World Snowshoe Invitational. Held during the closing days of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the race represented an incredible opportunity to showcase the sport of snowshoe racing to the world. Over 30 international athletes joined Canadian snowshoers to send a loud and clear message that snowshoe racing should be an Olympic event.

Mad Trapper Snowshoe Series Ends Season With Deep Snow Conditions

Another terrific season of Mad Trapper Snowshoe racing is now in the books. And thanks to global climate change, each passing year gets more interesting and more challenging. This past winter the only real snow we saw book-ended the season. We had a great dump of snow in mid December, with spots of rain and light flurries through January and February. It wasn’t until late February, the week prior to the Mad Trapper Grand Finale, that any measurable amount of snow fell again.

BREAKING NEWS: The World Snowshoe Invitational moves from Mount Seymour to Grouse Mountain. Race date remains Feb. 27. For more info: http://www.theyeti.ca

The Yeti Snowshoe Series and Grouse Mountain are set to host the World Snowshoe Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 27.  The snowshoe race is expected to invite several Olympic athletes, national champions and world record holders.  Among the competitors is Jonathan Wyatt, six-time World Mountain Running Champion and two-time Olympian.
