Hi Gael, thanks for commenting. This year is certainly a challenging snow year but I think we in the west are going to start to see more and more snow as we head toward spring. There is still time! Cheers, Cathleen

Hi Peter, thanks for you’re comment; you’re right, snowshoe racing is an important aspect of the snowshoe scene in the area. It actually needs an article of its own.

What I came away with is that Truckee and North Lake Tahoe should be on everyone’s list for snowshoing with the caveat they need to spend more than three days. The focus of thise piece was to talk about the leisurely pursuit of snowshoing. Like I said, I really believe snowshoe racing in the area requires a separate piece. (Which I would love to cover because everything I heard rivals every where else snowshoe racing has firmly taken hold.)

When I was leaving, I realized I hadn't even snowshoed Brockway Summit area, Spooner Lake, or even Mount Rose highway. That the region has a guidebook for snowshoeing gives you an idea of the impressive amount of area there is. But, as a local, you have to admit, you have a great apres snowshoe scene. Truckee has an amazing amount of really good places to go when the sun comes up and the sun goes down. I arrived wishing I knew more and left wishing I had made more time. Bottom line: I am looking at any excuse to return.

Cheers, and maybe I will see you soon.

Kind of an odd review. I don't know about anyone else but I'm left wondering - How did they taste? You never mentioned actually eating them.

I heard when you came to town and I was looking forward to hearing how snowshoeing would be discussed. I think you wrote a nice article fitting of sunset magazine or somw other general travel and leisure style magazine, but for snowshoe magazine I expected more. More about snowshoing, not just a line about when and views but the experience of the trail and the conditions of the snow and what is typically expected.
All the restuarant blurbs were nice and seemed to be a bigger focus than the actual sport.
Sorry if I'm being critical, you just missed the boat when it comes to what Truckee really has to offer when it comes to snowshoeing. No mention of snowshoe racing either.

This was a fantastic read. I lived in that area years ago; and so wish that I had been a snowshoer at that time. You have given me fodder for a possible future vacation w my daughter who was born there.

Finally, I live in an area in New England now where very (!) little snow has happened this season. I've gotten out once, in a paltry 4" of snow; but it was enough and wonderful! Thank you for your article. G.
