Gear Review: Women’s Arctic Adventure Muck Boot

I was stoked when the rep from the Muck Boot Company sent me a pair of their new Arctic Adventure boots to try out.  As a lifelong equestrian, I’ve always had my eye on their products because of their dedication to provide comfortable and practical footwear for messy, tough conditions, but I had never thought to use them in the winter for snowshoeing until recently.

This boot is described as a “casual, all-purpose winter boot” and boasts a broad comfort temperature range of -20 degrees to 70 degrees Fahrenheit thanks to its Neoprene insulation and fleece liner that work together to keep your tootsies toasty. I used these boots in a variety of environments, from snowshoeing in deep powder to kicking it around town in the rain and they proved to be comfortable, warm and 100 percent waterproof in all cases.

First, they are very easy to pull on and off despite the lack of pull holes to grip on either side. The flexible material makes it possible to include the “stretch fit topline binding” feature which allows the boot to hug the calf and prevent cold air and moisture to enter. I have chicken legs with super slim calves so this boot actually did not fit snugly on me, but I personally appreciated the extra room and didn’t notice a negative effect on its ability to keep my feet warm and dry—these boots are extremely warm! Honestly I think these boots would be way too warm in temperatures exceeding 60 degrees, if that.

The outer sole offers more traction than their regular boot model to better handle wet, icy terrain, and the inner sole showcases oh-so-comfy EVA cushioning (they are a dream to sink your aching arches into after a day stuffed into cramped ski boots!). I could walk miles in these, and even took them on a 3 mile snowshoe hike with zero blisters or “hot spots”. Honestly, I thought these boots would be too tall and stiff for snowshoeing, but they actually worked great. They were warm, flexible, totally waterproof and they fit perfectly in my snowshoe bindings.

Not only did this boot live up to its performance claims of keeping feet warm and dry, but it looked great, too! The slim fit and knee height made them a perfect complement to a variety of outfits, from the mountains to the city. I wore them with yoga pants running errands on sloppy days, with jeans out to dinner and other social events in the rain, and with my ski pants while snowshoeing.

Overall this is a great company that makes a great selection of durable, practical footwear products that prove to be warm and waterproof in the sloppiest of conditions. I highly recommend them for any avid outdoorsman (and women!) for hunting, hiking, snow sports and home and garden maintenance.

Pros: Very warm, 100% waterproof, comfortable, versatile, attractive

Cons: Sizes run large
