The Yeti: Celebrating 10 Years of Snowshoe Racing

The Yeti XC formally known as (The Yeti Snowshoe Series) is celebrating its 10th year anniversary as the premier snowshoe racing series in North America by introducing Nordic Skiing to the line up. The countdown is on for Saturday Jan. 29, 2011 as winter sports enthusiasts will be able to take part in the first multi sport winter race of the season on Mount Washington.

The “Winter Duathlon” will begin with a 5 kilometre snowshoe hike/run followed by a 10k XC ski finishing with a final 5k snowshoe loop back to the finish, this can be completed solo or as a team of two. Dave Howells course designer and part owner feel’s this is a natural progression for The Yeti. After 10 years we really felt that it was time to shake things up, all our venues, which include Mount Washington, Whistler Olympic Park and Cypress Mountain are all Nordic ski facilities and with a growing interest in this sport it was a no brainer.

The Yeti XC is also excited to announce a new relationship with Cypress Mountain. Every Thursday night starting on Jan 6 and going until March 10 snowshoe enthusiast can come up for a guided night time group workout. Thursday Night Drop In sessions are designed to provide a snowshoe walk-run experience in a fun non intimidating environment.

Marc Campbell said, “I couldn’t happier with this exciting new relationship with Cypress. The terrain provides and ideal setting for our Thursday Night program, I’m confident that with all the snow this season, we are going to have a record year!

The Yeti XC is still offering the ~5k Sport and ~10k Enduro snowshoe race but with the new Winter Duathlon concept our snowshoe participants have a great opportunity to try a new winter activity.
